Elvis Presley, o rei do rock roll. Já desde sua infância, ela era fã incondicional do: THE KING OF ROCK AND ROLL.

Essay from the year 2016 in the subject Sociology - Media, Art, Music, grade: 99.0, Winthrop University, course: Honors Seminar, language: English, abstract: John, Paul, George, and Ringo are four of the most recognizable names in the music world. These four musician masterminds came together to create some of the most well-known and classic songs that are still praised today. Some of todays biggest musicians cite The Beatles as being one of their biggest influences. It is difficult to fathom that The Beatles were once the starving artists waiting for their big break while admiring other artist and styles. Three great influences that shaped The Beatles music include Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and The one and only King, Elvis Presley. While all three of these musicians impacted The Beatles strongly, Elvis style, sound, and all around charisma left a lasting impression on all four of the young, eager members. These iconic artists excited the band, and influenced their music career, which in turn shaped the lives of so many other musical artists.

Essay from the year 2017 in the subject Musicology, grade: High Distinction, Griffith University (Queensland Conservatorium of Music), course: Bachelor of Music, language: English, abstract: The popular music genre is extremely diverse and has roots in the late 1890s but it was not until the 1920s until the term had gained currency. It is not simply a genre but is an important means of documenting the evolution of society through the decades and is at the mercy of its audience. Therefore, when analysing popular music, it is essential to study it from a broad perspective and take into consideration the environment in which it was written. Shruker elaborates on this by stating, The study of popular music embraces aesthetics and musicology, economics and sociology, and social psychology. These factors are explored in this essay to trace the changing socio-cultural trends across the decades and their effects on musical style. The example of Cant Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley is employed to achieve this objective, as well as two cover versions by English Reggae and pop band UB40 and Swedish pop group A-Teens. A detailed musical deconstruction of each song will be provided with an overview of the structure, lyrics, instruments and stylistic indictors, which place the song in its era. Furthermore, an in-depth exploration of the relevant era in which the song was written and recorded will be provided, including a brief background of the performer with regards to his appearance, presentation and promotional material. Ultimately, this essay will prove popular music to be a product of its socio-cultural environment.

´Johnny Cash ... Every man could relate to him, no man could be him, and only one man could get inside his head - Robert Hilburn´ BONO People don´t just listen to Johnny Cash: they believe in him. But no one has told the Man in Black´s full story, until now. In Johnny Cash: The Life, Robert Hilburn conveys the unvarnished truth about a musical icon, whose colourful career stretched from his days at Sun Records with Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis to his remarkable, brave and deeply moving ´Hurt´ video, aged sixty-nine. As music critic for the Los Angeles Times, Hilburn knew Cash well throughout his life: he was the only music journalist at the legendary Folsom Prison concert in 1968, and he interviewed Cash and his wife June Carter for the final time just months before their deaths in 2003. Hilburn´s rich reporting shows the remarkable highs and deep lows that followed and haunted Cash in equal measure. A man of great faith and humbling addiction, Cash aimed for more than another hit for the jukebox; he wanted his music to lift people´s spirits. Drawing upon his personal experience with Cash and a trove of never-before-seen material from the singer´s inner circle, Hilburn creates an utterly compelling, deeply human portrait of one of the most iconic figures in modern popular culture - not only a towering figure in country music, but also a seminal influence in rock, whose personal life was far more troubled, and whose musical and lyrical artistry much more profound, than even his most devoted fans ever realised.
